Sen Supt M Zondo, Capt T Masipa, Capt J Sokhela and Capt F Monama were shot dead just after 19:00 on 3 
April 2006 in the Kagiso Police Station by one of their colleagues. Const Johannes Mabaso was shot eight times at close range by hijackers and then robbed of his police patrol car and service pistol at Ga_Rankuwa on 24 June 2006.
Insp Thinus Prinsloo from Mokopong (Naboomspruit) was shot dead after he and his colleague had stopped three men to question them on 28 June 2006.
Sgt Modikeni Riba was shot dead on 3 July 2006. He and his colleague stopped at the Sasol N12 service station in Lenasia to fill up and allow the one prisoner they were transporting to go to the toilet. The two policemen were overwhelmed by three prisoners and Sgt Riba was killed on the scene.
Sgt Luvuyo Mnyanda and Const Maneli Golimpi were shot at close range in the head on 19 July 2006 after they had been called to attend to an assault complaint at a house in Langa. It was found to be a "false complaint" and on their way back to the vehicle they were confronted by a gang of armed men who killed them.
Sen Supt Jacob (Blommie) Blom, the Commander of the Pretoria Police Special Task Force died after a parachuting accident during a routine exercise in Modimolle (Nylstroom) on 25 July 2006.
Sgt Gavin Attlee from Sydenham Police Station was shot in the head after he had been called out to investigate a housebreaking at Reservoir Hills on 24 August 2006.
Const Mlungisi Mzelemu was shot dead on 2 October 2006 after responding to a call of two women being assaulted with a knobkerrie.
Supt Cecil Paul was shot on 20 October 2006 after responding to a call_out following an incident at the Kimberley West Mine. Although he underwent emergency surgery and received 120 units of blood in 2 days, he passed away on 25 October 2006.
After the wreath_laying ceremony, Fanie, the brother of the murdered Insp Gert Schoeman said: "This is an excellent way of paying tribute to all the police members of South Africa who were murdered. It means a lot to the family." The grieving widow of Insp Sikhwari said: "It is very painful to talk about his death. I choose to remember him as a loving husband and good father." Insp Sikhwari was shot dead in June 2006 a few metres from the Lenasia Police Station where he worked.
With the death of a loved one comes memories. Events like the SAPS’ Annual Commemoration Day force us to remember. Although it is convenient for some not to remember, remembering is challenging, and memories can be healing.
At SERVAMUS we hear of every senseless death with great shock. It is nearly impossible to describe what goes through our minds when we hear of another police member that had been killed in the line of duty. To the family we want to say: Keep your memories close to your heart, it will help with the healing process. We share in your grief and hope that every day filled with memories will bring healing to your pain _ a pain that no one who has not suffered the loss you have suffered, will ever understand.

"These men and women who die in service to their community are heroes and their memories will be honoured and cherished." Dep Nat Comm Magda Stander said: "Each death was a major and bitter blow, not only for the Police Service, but also for South Africa. Each life is precious and priceless, and the loss of even one policeman or _woman is one too many." She also recalled the Jeppestown killings in June 2006 in which Insp Gert Schoeman, Insp Frikkie van Heerden, Insp Victor Mathye and Const Pieter Seaward were killed. She said that the deaths of these four men have led to a renewed effort to fight South Africa's thugs and bring those who try to break the thin blue line and harm our country, to book.
