When Yusuf Abramjee mentioned during a media conference at the end of June 2010 that the June 2010 Crime Line Pick ‘n Pay Star of the Stars was to be awarded to the SAPS - as an organisation - I was excited. In short, he said, the award was to be made for the police members' work during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The Department of Community Safety earnestly embarked on a campaign to reduce road fatalities in the Western Cape during 2010. With its no-nonsense approach, the Safely Home Campaign aims to reduce road deaths in the Western Cape by half by 2014. Integrated Safely Home checkpoints are held weekly on various routes and the statistics have proven their success during the first semester of the year.
